Intuitive interactive map and Ticketing for St Nectan’s Glen

St Nectan’s Glen, near Tintagel in Cornwall, is nestled in a tranquil woodland valley along the Trevillet River. Renowned for its dramatic 60-foot waterfall, surrounded by lush temperate rainforest, moss, and ferns, the area is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its biological importance by Natural England.

The St Nectan’s Glen team wanted to replace their outdated systems to improve visitor experience and streamline operations within its hospitality, retail and event areas. The brief - replacing outdated systems with an intuitive ecosystem

St Nectan’s Glen is a distinctive venue, hosting weddings and civil ceremonies in a range of locations on site, including the Waterfall itself, a beautiful Arbor on the Café Lawn, Riverside Pergola, or the private Zen Garden.

At the heart of this enchanting Glen is the Tree of Life Café, a Gold Award winner at the Cornwall Tourism Awards. Open daily, the Café offers homemade dishes, fresh cakes, and locally roasted coffee, all made with Cornish produce whenever possible. The café is also open for evening events, such as their Candlelit Suppers between October and March and also has an ice cream parlour featuring Cornish ice creams and milkshakes as well as Bacon Tim’s provides a variety of sweet and savoury takeaway treats.

Their existing interfaces were cluttered with old and duplicate buttons, making the system confusing for staff to use. Therefore the team wanted to update their systems, to provide a more streamlined user experience for both staff and customers, and therefore reached out to Cornish EPOS for a solution.

The solution - customisable and reliable solutions

In order to meet the needs of the popular attraction, the following solutions were installed:

  • TouchPoint tills with customer-facing displays and Dojo card machines

  • Ticketing with the Entry Scanner App for seamless ticket management

  • ByTable webshop and app for online ticket sales and an interactive map

  • TouchOffice Web+ back office management

  • The solutions were installed in a timely manner by the Cornish EPOS team with the opportunity to even trial some of the systems before the complete roll out, giving the customer peace of mind to proceed.

The result - a seamless ecosystem to streamline the visitor experience

TouchPoint tills are equipped with customer-facing displays featuring branded artwork and premium scanners that can easily read QR codes on screens, even in bright ambient lighting, which is essential when scanning customer devices for ticket redemptions and loyalty functions.

Ticketing was also a core element of the installation, allowing visitors to buy tickets online for the waterfall walk by scanning QR codes on info boards around the site, or by purchasing them from any till, including in the Tintagel Shop. These tickets can be verified by a member of staff at the entrance to the waterfall walk via a device running the Entry Ticket Scanner App during peak times to speed up entry, or at the till.

The comprehensive interactive map provides a convenient way to offer visitors extra information about different areas. The map can be easily updated via TouchOffice Web+, allowing for the addition of routes or points of interest for events, managing closures for maintenance, or implementing seasonal updates.

Sending app notifications and promotions, or viewing Ticketing details and reports to plan for expected visitor numbers, can also be managed through TouchOffice Web+, giving the St Nectan’s Glen team complete control.

Additionally, visitors can renew their memberships linked to their accounts directly through the app, and push notifications keep users informed about events and activities, essentially providing St Nectan’s Glen with a complete ecosystem to manage all areas of operations.
