Can the hospitality industry absorb another year of rising costs?

As a result of the new tax year, UKHospitality’s latest member survey has reported significant concerns regarding operational costs across the UK’s hospitality scene.

The survey collected responses from some of the most influential voices in the UK’s hospitality industry, including the British Beer and Pub Association, the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and Hospitality Ulster, revealing the damaging impact on the industry.

Let’s take a look at the impact

The member survey has revealed some devastating figures. Many businesses will have to implement severe measures to survive, with 64% planning to cut jobs, 51% cancelling investment plans, 42% reducing trading hours and one in seven (15%) reporting they will be forced to close. The increasing cost of energy prices was also a significant concern, with 93% of businesses reporting that the energy costs were impacting profitability.

In a joint statement, trade bodies said:

“Yet again, hospitality businesses enter April facing billions of pounds in additional costs, which will force many to make heartbreaking decisions.”

How does ICRTouch help navigate the challenges?

Empower your existing team

Solutions like PocketTouch digital order taking have completely revolutionised the hospitality industry. PocketTouch provides front-of-house teams with all necessary menu, allergen and promotional information from the palm of their hands, and allows them to send orders straight to your kitchen and bar areas at the click of a button. Alongside streamlined operational efficiency, our in-house data shows an increase in customer order totals when orders are placed via PocketTouch, thanks to functionality that facilitates upselling.

Quicker service, more covers, higher order totals  – all with your current, reliable team.

Shoulder the burden with diverse revenue streams

Reducing the number of staff isn’t the preferred option, but as revealed in the survey, many operators will have to consider this to keep their business afloat. A useful alternative could be to empower customers by implementing multiple ordering channels. Introducing solutions like the ByTable self ordering platform and SelfService kiosks can free up your team from the order taking process, improving efficiency across your business and driving higher customer order totals at the same time. The kiosks also serve as an excellent advertising space when they aren’t interacted with, thanks to bespoke screensaver functionality.
