For the month of August, the Government’s new Eat Out To Help Out Scheme gives people up to 50% off meals out on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at participating venues up to a maximum of £10 per head to encourage them to support the hospitality industry.

ICRTouch’s development team has been working hard to provide their customers with the simplest, most stress-free solution to automatically calculate and apply the discount, and this is now in the hands of our nationwide network of dealers to roll out to restaurants, cafes, pubs, canteens and hotels across the UK.

For our TouchPoint till system, we have provided users with an ETAL script to handle the scheme discounts for them, ensuring a fast and error-free sales process. ETAL is ICRTouch’s innovative and powerful programming engine that allows enhancements and new features to be added to the till.

For our ByTable order-at-table solution, whether used via the web or our bespoke ByTable apps for Android or IOS, we have provided a one-click opt-in system for participating venues, and then it’s a simple as applying the relevant selective itemiser to eligible items in our cloud-based TouchOffice Web back-office solution.

The rest is entirely automated, including offering and redeeming the discount; the customer simply clicks the ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ banner on the checkout screen and enters the number of diners.

It only works on eligible items, on eligible days, and only for the duration of the scheme; no need to reprogramme items or disable the scripts.

All of this comes very much as a relief to the unsung heroes of the hospitality trade; the overworked EPOS specialists that have not only had to get the entire industry back up and running in the last month but have to implement whatever schemes the Government comes up with!

Warm summer days are fast approaching, which can only mean one thing - venues all over the UK, particularly those with large outdoor areas will see a significant increase in footfall. You’re no doubt already thinking about ways of extracting as much revenue as possible from the seasonal period whilst keeping costs to a minimum, and upgrading your current EPoS set up is a great way to start.
